Aishwarya Rai, well known leading Indian actress and former Miss World of 1994 is also an international face of Hindi Cinema. She has represented India in several international programs and Hollywood movies. She was also chosen Miss India World in 1994 and she won the Miss World award and Miss Photogenic award in the same year.
Aishwarya Rai (After marriage she got name Aishwarya Rai Bachchan) was born on November 1, 1973 in Mangalore to Krishnaraj Rai and Vrinda Rai. She spent her childhood in Mumbai and joined Arya Vidya Mandi High School, Santa Cruz. Later she attended Jai Hind College, Churchgate and then Ruparel College in Matunga and finished her HSC studies. She entered in architecture as she used to dream to be a architect but she left her study to pursue a career in modeling and acting.
After getting the crown of Miss India World and Miss World she lived in London for a year and after returning she joined modeling industry. In 1997 she started her career as actress from Mani Ratnam’s Tamil film Iruvar, which was a successful movie and got many awards including Best Film award at the Belgrade International Film Festival, two Filmfare Awards South and two National Film Awards. Same year she appeared in Hindi film Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya with Bobby Deol. In 1998 she again tasted success through Tamil film Jeans which was followed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Hindi film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam with Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan which established Aishwarya Rai as a talented and top actress of Bollywood. She also won her first Filmfare award for his role Nandini in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.
After Bhansali’s film Aishwarya Rai joined many big production houses and directors and did more successful hit movies like Taal, Josh, Devdas, Chokher Bali, Dhoom, Umrao Jaan, Guru, Mohabbatein as well as Hollywood movies Provoked, Pride & Prejudice, Mistress of spices etc. She has acted in more than 45 movies of Hindi, English, Tamil and Marathi and got acclaimed praises for her acting. In 2008, she got her second Filmfare Award for the leading character of Jodha Bai in Jodha-Akbar. In 2010 she came in Enthiran co-starred by Rajnikanth and in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Guzarish with Hrithik Roshan and won the heart of viewers by her performance.
Aishwarya Rai has been awarded with Padma Shri for her contribution to Bollywood and Order of France as well as she was chosen the Female Star of The Decade at tenth International Indian Film Academy Awards, Macau. Besides this, in 2004 she was selected one of the World’s “100 Most Influential People” of Times magazine which was repeated in 2010. Aishwarya has also appeared in Oprah Winfrey’s Show, The Tyra Banks Show and Late Show with David Letterman, which shows her international icon image of beauty likewise she was also ranked 9th in the 10 Most Beautiful Women of the World of Harpers and Queen’s.
